This is me

Since I got my orange laptop cover at Christmas, it's been my goal to make it look as me as possible. Thus far I seem to be succeeding.

As if a ridiculously orange cover wasn't me enough . . . It's a somewhat eclectic mix, one that I love quite a bit. Whenever I get new stickers, as I did yesterday, I get more excited than I probably should. Yesterday's additions include Rodeo Arcade & Maker.

By far the all-time favorite sticker though is my media pass from the Real Salt Lake home opener earlier this year. One other person on campus has one of those; her name is Taylor and we're journalism BFFs so we covered the game together. The day we went to that game was the day I finally knew without a shadow of a doubt that I wanted to write sports.

Every sticker on here means something to me and represents a little of who I am. Well, except for the random green one. I don't know where I found it even but I thought it looked cool. It's by no means a comprehensive representation of who I am but I like to think people can look at it and learn at least a little bit about my personality. Hopefully they wouldn't think that's all I am, though. When people fail to imagine each other complexly we get into all kinds of trouble.

As I mentioned yesterday I did indeed spend my evening reading The Fault In Our Stars. I read it all. Cover to cover. It was wonderful. I forgot how intense and thought-provoking it was. Though I knew exactly what was going to happen, some of it felt as raw and intriguing as the first time I read it back in January. My favorite part of reading again was probably annotating. I have this weird aversion to writing in books so I use Post-It notes instead. It was probably more brilliant this time around than it was before.

It probably makes things a little inconvenient for others if they borrow my books but such is life.

Laundry Day

Whenever I do laundry, I try to listen to this song from Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. My freshman roommate Sara and I used to do so quite often, even when we weren't doing laundry.

You know it's going to be a riveting post when it starts with laundry. It is a strangely exciting thing, though; mostly because literally all of my clothes are clean and in my drawers or hanging up in my closet. That doesn't happen very often.

Besides laundry, I also put some books up for sale on the book exchange web site. Hopefully someone needs these rando books I have from semesters past that I either forgot to sell back or just didn't for whatever reason. I'm hopeful.

But for real though, all I did today was clean my room and do laundry . . . Pretty boring as far as Saturdays are concerned. It's barely five and I have nothing else to do in all actuality. I think I'm going to finish The Hunger Games and start on my Word Freak book. Now that I think about words, I also need to check and see if Lorraine has played in our games of Words with Friends yet. It's been a very quiet day, though. My roommates have basically just been gone for most of it. Laura was gone even before I got up, I think. Lorraine went home on Wednesday I believe it was. And Stacy has been here but she left this afternoon some time and I haven't seen her since. It's a nice change to have the apartment to myself.

Oh, and besides laundry, I also put away from winter hats. Yeah. Exciting stuff.

I'm going to read now. Do enjoy your Saturday night!

Edit: You know what's weird? Seeing friends on Facebook who I know from back home commenting on pictures of other people's engagement rings. Being at BYU kind of makes you forget that other people sometimes get married too.

Polygadates and I'm in Wyoming

The plan originally was to leave for home on Friday. Well, that didn't happen. Instead I'm laying on a queen sized bed in a Comfort Inn somewhere in Wyoming, waiting for the 100th episode of 30 Rock to begin. As you'll know if you've been reading my blog, I'm way into 30 Rock lately. Even more so than I was before.

Before I talk about the trip thus far, and road trips in general, I must recount last night's events. My roommate Lorraine and I, yes the Lorraine I wrote the acrostic poem about, hung out w/ our good ol' friend Steven. We met him through another roommate when they were kind of dating. They broke up but we still love him. We went on what we decided to call a "polygadate." Sound it out if you don't understand yet. You'll get it. We went bowling, at which time Steven wasted us. Then we got frozen yogurt which I've never really had before since I'm pretty much addicted to custard. We ended up drawing on all their little handout pieces of paper and talking about life, especially dating. When we left the froyo place we jumped in a bunch of puddles. Yeah, we're pretty much six years old. We also played Bananagrams in which I schooled everyone.

Steven eventually had to go because he still had an exam today. Lorraine and I eventually ran off to Smith's to buy Chinese food. By that point it was around 1 am. So yeah, Chinese was definitely a necessity at that point. We watched She's the Man and stayed up talking until 4 am. What a great life.

I spent the entirety of today packing. Literally packing everything. And then I cleaned. And said good-bye to my peoples. It was intense.

So back to the current place in time: this hotel in Wyoming. Road trips are crazy. I love them. I sit in the backseat with my books, crossword puzzles, movies and such. I never sit in normal positions in cars either. My shoes come off and my blanket and pillow are my best friends. For me driving halfway across the country is normal. I do it twice a year and I don't really get tired of it. It's just the ritual I go through to return to whichever home I'm heading, whether it be to good ol' Wisconsin where my heart truly resides or Utah where my new family resides.
