Today was not wonderful, nor was it terrible. It kind of just was, if that makes sense.
This morning I had orientation for my new job. It's going to be an interesting and busy semester, that's for sure, but I'm excited nonetheless.
The most exciting part of the day, by far, was checking the mail. I got two packages. One was from Amazon, a book for a class. The other was my ShayCarl Volcom tee. I found a way to get it 50% off so I really could not resist. They also stuffed two stickers in the envelope so now my laptop case has some new decoration; I couldn't be more pleased.
Well, I'm going to read The Fault In Our Stars now. I need some John Green in my life today, I can just tell it's one of those days. I'm feeling weird about life and decisions today, so I figure reading will help me put things in a different perspective and give me a way to think about what's been going on.

Edit: I've decided for the rest of the afternoon I'm ditching my phone. So if you're in dire need of conversing w/ me, the best way to do so would probably be e-mail.

The glory of a t-shirt
Those who know me well, or those who see me often, can attest to the fact that I wear t-shirts usually 6.5 out of 7 days a week. (I take away a half day to account for going to church or for some other occasion where I have to dress up all nice-like.)
A little while back, a friend of mine was kind of getting after t-shirts, saying there wasn't anything special about a t-shirt. Um, excuse me? False.
I consider the t-shirt to be one of the most underrated items of clothing. Yes, I will admit, there are t-shirts that look like crap: they aren't high quality, the color is weird, they literally look strange, whether it be the shape is off or the design is just sketch. Great tees are hard to come by, unless you know where to look. And as you can probably gather, I know where to look.
For as long as I can remember, I've preferred t-shirts over any other kind of shirt. I'm not even talking about girly looking t-shirts with weird frills or designs. I think this has to do somewhat with my desire to one day become a professional baseball player. Sadly, that didn't really pan out. I always associated t-shirts with sports. And by the time I was old enough to realize what "style" is, I had pretty much settled into a routine of t-shirts and jeans every day. That's not to say I don't enjoy a good sweater or cardigan, because I certainly do, but I often layer such things with various t-shirts. I've become a huge fan of plaid button-down shirts and the only logical thing to wear underneath such a thing is, once again, a t-shirt.
It is true that t-shirts definitely have different levels of niceness; there's a big difference between artsy-designed tees from Threadless and the (somewhat exorbitant number of) Wisconsin Badgers t-shirts that grace my closet, a place in which all of my t-shirts hang in rainbow ordered harmony. Each of these t-shirts has its own charm, something about each of them makes me keep them around at college. Solid-colored shirts are nice but I am definitely a fan of screen-printed tees. T-shirts with words on them, pictures, plays on words, logos and slogans. If done well, those shirts are great for anyone.
For me personally, t-shirts say a lot. On any given day, my t-shirt probably tells you more about how I am feeling than I would ever say in words. I definitely dress based on mood. Not only that, but I dress based on comfort. I've never had a really difficult time with the whole "body image" thing but I know that at least a small part of my t-shirt love comes from that fact. Girls' t-shirts can often be skin tight and somewhat shear. Those shirts have always disgusted me to a degree, which is why I became so attached to the idea of old school tees, something loose but not baggy, something longer but not stretched out. I rarely worry about how I look when I have a t-shirt on because to me there's nothing to worry about.
My mom hasn't always been too happy in my choice of t-shirts, namely the fact that they are pretty much all I wear, and to be completely honest there once was a point in time (probably at the beginning of high school) at which I thought I might eventually "get over" wearing t-shirts all the time . . . But that has never come close to happening, and at this point I sincerely doubt if I ever will. It really has become my style and I'm perfectly content in keeping it that way.
So the next time you see me wearing an interesting t-shirt, ask me about it, because pretty much all my shirts have stories. Whether the story be about when I got the shirt, somewhere I wore it, or just about how it makes me feel, there's something about each t-shirt that makes me love it.

Hello, Provo
I am pretty much officially moved into my apartment. Condominium technically but there really isn't much difference. I got my key this morning and now here I am: laying on my recently made bed with pictures spread out everywhere since I started putting up my photo wall a few hours ago. I can hear one of my roommates in the kitchen putting away all the food she just bought. She's the only person in the apartment I don't know, and I am one of three people she doesn't know; two other girls will be moving in later this week, including my dear, sweet Lorraine.
Unpacking is always a bit of a struggle. All these boxes and things spread all around my room and I have no idea where to start. I decided to go w/ my clothes first since then I could get my suitcase out of the way. It was at that point that I realized I had not brought along enough hangars. At all. I was forced to fold so many of my shirts, shirts that are usually never folded and put in drawers. It really unnerved me. I like being able to see all of my shirts, rifle through them, and not have it be a total mess. T-shirts in drawers just does not cut it for me.
There are some things that have yet to be put away, even now hours later, namely all the DVDs I have. They are spread out on Lorraine's bed. I figure they can be moved once she gets here in the middle of the week. Maybe I'll stop being lazy by then. Maybe.
Tonight I went to dinner w/ my old roommate Mckenna and her family at this delicious pizza and pasta place. I even have leftovers of my chicken parmesan for tomorrow.
And tomorrow is when orientation starts so I can learn how to orientate others, "others" being the freshman I will be showing around for 2 days. Basically, I'm going to change lives.
Well, to top it all off, the light in my room went out this evening. The dome light on the ceiling is not very helpful when there is no working lightbulb. I'll have to get that sorted out tomorrow.

T-shirts galore
I would say it's common knowledge that I prefer t-shirts above all other kinds of shirts/tops/blouses. And I'm not talking solid colored tees. I'm talking sports/witty/nerdy/graphic tees, like those from Threadless. There's something about t-shirts that just takes the cake. My mom kind of hates it that I love them so much but at this point if I stopped wearing t-shirts, I wouldn't be me anymore.
Granted, some t-shirts are nicer than others, in quality and style, I try not to discriminate. One day I'll wear a punny Threadless shirt, the next a soccer jersey, the next something neon from Pac Sun. If I were to define my style, all I could say is "t-shirts." I wear t-shirts like hipsters wear skinny jeans and oversized or super tight plaid shirts. The thing is, t-shirts know no bounds. Every "style" incorporates this simple piece of clothing.
The reason I bring this up is because I am currently packing my clothing. I never realize how many tees I have until it's time to pack them up again. Somehow between when I pack them in April, unpack them a few days later and when I repack them to return, so a period of about 3 months, I manage to forget how many I have. And I actually wear pretty much all of them. I'm the kind of person that decides what to wear on how I feel a particular day. It's all about how I feel and not so much about how people will perceive what I'm wearing.
I'm pretty legit. I know.
Now back to packing.
